Helping Businesses Get SMART
On April 25, 2019, the LACDA awarded Buena Vista Furniture a SMART Funding loan in the amount of $119,191 to help the business consolidate high interest rate debt and purchase a new delivery truck.
Established in November of 1999 by Joseph and Ruth “Ruthie” Torres, Buena Vista Furniture (Buena Vista) has been providing the greater Los Angeles County with quality furniture for 20 years. Based in Southern California, Buena Vista specializes in fine handcrafted furniture and home décor imported from around the world. The bulk of Buena Vista’s sales are generated from their furniture, which is primarily traditional wood-based handicraft which possesses authentic Spanish/Latin American flair.
Buena Vista has not only become a trusted business with excellent customer service and expertise, but more importantly, an integrated member of El Sereno's small business community, along the Alhambra Road corridor.
Due to multiple denials from several banks, Buena Vista has had to turn to the use of cash on hand and ultimately the use of credit cards to facilitate certain aspects of their operations. With high interest debt compounding and business operations being affected by recent circumstances, Buena Vista approached the LACDA for a loan to refinance their high interest debt and purchase a new delivery truck to replace one damaged in an accident.
The LACDA’s competitive loan program helped Buena Vista Furniture access capital with a low-interest rate, allowing their business to continue to grow.
